If this motion causes a transmitting medium to vibrate, this vibration may transmit sound waves to the ear and to the brain. * Frequency is the rate at which the source produces sound waves, i.e. complete cycles of high and low pressure regions. In other words, frequency is the number of times per second that a vibrating body completes one cycle of motion. * Pitch is a sound whose frequency is clear and stable enough to be heard. The pitch is determined mostly by frequency and is usually identified with it (it depends in a small degree, on the sound level and the auditory system but (to avoid confusion), these differences are often ignored when discussing answers to quiz questions presented here). * Frequency: Low pitched or bass sounds have low frequencies. High-pitched or treble sounds have high frequencies. **Sound is another name for some types of vibration.
